Dezeraie Topuschak

Dezeraie is an outgoing, caring and warm person. She was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and moved to Calgary Alberta at the age of nine. Being active and playing sports is very important to her and will always be a major part of her life. She loves to work with children and share her knowledge of sports through coaching.
She is currently attending Mount Royal University and pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree. Dezeraie loves to paint and is working on her personal art website where a portion of the proceeds will go to different charities that help children in need. Within the next few years, Dezeraie plans to own her own Art Gallery which will also be a venue for events such as small concerts and fashion shows.
In her spare time Dezeraie loves to bake and is practicing cooking traditional Ukrainian meals so she can pass on her heritage. She also loves to run, spend time with her sister and keep up on the latest trends in fashion and interior design.
You will always see a big smile on Dezeraie’s face as she believes happiness comes from within. If given the opportunity as Miss Universe Canada 2010, she would embrace such an opportunity to the fullest by devoting herself to the mission and the goals represented by the crown.

What would be your "dream job" in life?
My dream job is to own my own Art Gallery. The Gallery would double as a creative outlet for events such as small concerts and fashion shows. To be an active and involved mother is also important to me and would definitely be a dream come true.
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life? Why?
My Uncle Darrell has had a great influence on my life. As a successful business owner for 30 years he has exemplified creativity, generosity and equality. Respect is the key word that describes Darrell as everyone that he is involved with; family, church, charity, employees and clients, all are treated equal. By example, he has shown that passion combined with hard work is an unstoppable combination. I am very grateful to have him in my life and hope that I to will be an entrepreneur that models his thriving business plan.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
My career ambition is to own my own Art Gallery, combined with an Event Planning Company. I am currently volunteering at a Gallery, and soaking in all of the new knowledge as well as starting up my own art website.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived there for nine years before moving to Calgary Alberta. My childhood was full of matching outfits with my younger sister Jazmyn (who is also my best friend), playing sports with my Dad and making crafts and being creative with my Mom!
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
While working at Canada Olympic Park as a Catering Team Lead I have had the privilege of taking an active role in creating unique weddings and witnessing some crazy events!

Fundraising at Springbank High School for ‘Feed the Hungry’, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; programs that have raised hundreds of dollars for their causes.

What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
The many experiences of life have afforded me many opportunities which I have welcomed with open arms and embraced with enthusiasm. As a well rounded woman I am able and enjoy adapting to different circumstances. I am comfortable in any situation from a gymnasium, to a creative black tie event.
What is your philosophy of/in life?
To wake-up in the morning excited and ready to make the most of the day! Also I believe it is important to treat others as you would like to be treated; words of wisdom from my Mom.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
In ten years l would love to have a happy and healthy family. Together we would be a team; ready to pursue goals, travel and live everyday to its absolute fullest! I would also be operating my successful Art Gallery and running marathons!
Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself? Something unique that has happened to you? Some interesting thing about you?
I am a Geranium, part German and part Ukrainian!
